This type of double weave is very characteristic of Pennsylvania. These were popularly made amongst communities for bed covers in Ohio and several other mid east coast states. It is possible that this example was made pre-Civil War but most likely from the mid or third quarter of the 19th century. They are made of wool and commonly mistaken for Welsh blankets from which they are rather superior.
The double-weave technique permits the cover to be reversible with exchange of the indigo and undyed cotton negative to positive - suffered from some historic abrasion
